Section 2: Mindfulness in Daily Life

This week, we will build on our formal meditation/mindfulness practice with more informal, sense-based practices. Working on being as present as possible with daily activities such as eating, walking, listening, and touching.

Section 2 Journal Prompts

  • Choose one activity this week that you will pay as much attention to as possible. It should be something you do every single day, without exception. Brushing teeth, drinking coffee, showering, or washing hands are all good options. Put up a sign or set a reminder on your phone to remind yourself, and when you do that activity, try to bring all of your attention and awareness to the senses as you do it.

  • How did it feel to do this challenge? What did you notice?

  • What gets in the way of you bringing your attention to each moment's activities? Can you note what distracts you or brings you away, when you notice it?

  • Choose one person you interact with regularly. Challenge yourself to be FULLY present with this person when they speak to you or spend time with you over the course of the week.
